Message from the Board: March 2021

By | Board Correspondence, From the RCHCA Officers, Meetings, Newsletters, Online Directory, RCHCA Biz, Social Events, Volunteer

Good Morning Rock Creek Hills neighbors,

Spring is arriving to our beautiful neighborhood, and we are looking forward to warmer days, blooming daffodils, and returning songbirds to our backyards and local parks.

If you are reading this email, you are on the Rock Creek Hills listserv, one of many community services funded by the yearly $40 per household contribution to the Rock Creek Hills Citizens’ Association.

We are reaching out to you now to ask for your annual contribution. The fastest and easiest way to pay your household dues is to click on this link, http://rchca.org/. If you are able, please consider donating more than the standard $40 dues to support your neighborhood, as the cost of providing services has increased over time and our dues level has remained constant for many years.

The Rock Creek Hills Citizens’ Association Board uses your contributions to provide all routine Association costs, including:

·        Beautifying and maintaining our neighborhood traffic circles, which work historically has been done largely by community volunteers using supplies paid for by the Citizen’s Association but which increasingly must be performed by contractors as our volunteers have had to step back from their prior — and very-much-appreciated — physical contributions.

·        Funding our spring and fall neighborhood parties, which we expect will return later this year.

·        Paying for the neighborhood listserv, where we can share community forum and updates about events and community concerns.

·        Producing a hard-copy Neighborhood Directory every several years.

·        Maintaining an online Neighborhood Directory, which is regularly updated.

·        Sponsoring two yearly business meetings with important presentations on issues impacting the neighborhood, such as new water lines and construction projects affecting our community. Please note that your dues payment qualifies you to vote on community decisions made at these meetings.

·        Monitoring and enforcing the neighborhood covenants, which maintain the special park-like appeal of Rock Creek Hills.

These services support our entire community and provide value to every homeowner in our neighborhood. We ask every household to please support these services by contributing. You can pay online today at http://rchca.org/. You also can mail or drop off a check for $40 (or more) payable to RCHCA, attention Treasurer John Robinson, 9616 Old Spring Road Kensington, MD 20895

The Rock Creek Hills Citizens’ Association Board and its overlapping covenants-enforcement board are all-volunteer organizations managed by members of this community. If you are interested doing more to support our neighborhood, or have ideas for ways to improve our community, please share your thoughts by email to the Citizens’ Association Board at:  board@rchca.org.

Thank you for your contributions to RCHCA and to our wonderful neighborhood. They are greatly appreciated.

Sincerely yours,

Peter Chatfield

RCHCA President

P.S. If you are interested in a colorful “Welcome to Our Neighborhood” yard sign, we have a few more for sale for $15. Contact jjpekar@gmail.com to get yours.

Annual Halloween Parade/Pot Luck – 10/27/19

By | Social Events

The crisp, fall weather is right around the corner…and so is our annual RCHCA all-neighbors-welcome Halloween party.
Scheduled for Sunday, October 27, we need volunteers to take the reigns on this annual event, or sadly it will not happen this year.
Erica Weiss, Randi Wortman and I planned this event for the past three years and have an easy playbook for you to follow so you can maximize the fun — with very little work.

Email me at jennierose1@gmail.com if you can help keep this tradition going for our neighborhood. Great opportunity for some of our new neighbors and young families to work together to continue this great community event.
Thanks, Jennie RosenbergWake Drive

Please Help! Halloween Party – no planners, no party!

By | Social Events

Hello fellow neighbors,

For well over 20 years (am I right Marylin?) this neighborhood has enjoyed a wonderfully festive Halloween Party. The kids costumes are so cute, the family-style potluck meal is so nice … could it be that no one wants to take charge this year to make it happen?! (If you’re curious about it, rest assured that we’ll tell you everything you need to know! Easy!)

Please consider taking charge this year to keep the spirit alive. We could use a little “community love” right now -and this is a great way to enjoy it.

Warmly, your retiring Party Planners:
Erica, Randi & Jennie

Coordinator needed for RCH Fall/Spring Gatherings

By | Neighborhood Notices, Social Events

Hi Neighbors!

After coordinating the fall and spring gatherings for our community the past few years, we are looking to hand it over to other folks. The gatherings are relatively easy to plan, and neighbors often offer to help!

Please email me back if you are willing to step into this position and we could provide you with all the information.

Sadly, the parties will not go on without a coordinator.

Fondly,
Randi, Erica & Jennie

CANCELED: Annual Halloween Event Sunday, 10/29

By | Social Events
Due to what appears to be a 100% chance of rain on Sunday, we sadly need to cancel Sunday’s Halloween event.

Should the rain stop later in the day, the grass in the yard would be wet and potentially dangerous for setting up our bounce activities — no to  mention some muddy Halloween costumes.

That said, your planning committee is working on a fun winter reschedule — hopefully some hot chocolate, smores making and hot apple cider.

Stay tuned and let us know if you have nay ideas for the new Winterfest.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 29 – CANCELED
3:15 Outside Kensington Park Sign on Littledale for Senior Visit
3:45 Parade Begins / 4:00 – 7:00 PM Party (3500 Saul Road)

Neighbors,

We will be visiting the Kensington Park Seniors again for trick-or-treating prior to our festivities.

They look forward to our arrival every year and hope you and your adorable ghosts and goblins can plan to meet at 3:15pm sharp in front of the “Kensington Park” entrance sign on Littledale.

We will all walk in together before the firetruck meets us outside for the parade.

We will have a bounce house, arts & crafts, pizza, sandwiches and
the fabulous sides and desserts that you each contribute every year.

A-I Appetizers
J-R Salads
S-Z Desserts

Looking forward to seeing you all then! (jennierose1@gmail.com)

This Friday (7/21): Student-Welcoming Yard-Sign Pick-Up Back-Porch Happy-Hour!

By | From the RCHCA Officers, Neighborhood Notices, Silver Creek Middle School, Social Events

Dear neighbors,

If yours is one of the 22 homes that directly face Silver Creek Middle School, then we’ll drop off a “we’re glad you’re our neighbor” yard sign for you this week. If your home does not directly face the school, then you are welcome to come over this Friday (7/21/17) to pick up a sign, drop off a check, and maybe stay for a cold drink. There are only enough signs for the first 28 people; everyone else can buy ’em online (see [previous post]).

With best regards,
Jim P.
9723 Kingston Road (corner of Saul)
See you on the back porch (over the garage) from 5–7 PM.

P.S. A recent Washington Post story speaks to the importance of providing a welcoming environment for students: <https://goo.gl/8G5ZZa>
