SCMS Bus Routes Using Old Spring Rd. Vs Beach Dr.

FYI,

The Rock Creek Hills Citizensā€™ Association Board of Directors sent an email to Ms. Shari Stream, Transportation Cluster Manager for the BCC Cluster, regarding the SCMS buses using Old Spring Rd. vs Beach Dr.  The Boardā€™s email and Ms. Streamā€™s response are below.

The RCHCA Board did not mention allegations of the buses being operated unsafely (e.g., speeding), since we have no evidence of unsafe actions by the bus drivers. If anyone witnesses a school bus being operated in an unsafe manner, please report it to the school or the Transportation Cluster Manager including the date, time, and bus number or license number.

Regards,

Mike Baker

RCHCA Treasurer

Good Morning,

I have received your email about Old Spring Road. Thank you for sharing your concerns with me. Several staff members have been out to the Old Spring Road area and have observed the area as well as the surrounding neighborhood roads. All the roads in that area are very similar and all provide a safe roadway for the buses to travel. So, at this time we will not require our buses to reroute off Old Spring Rd. However, I will bring your concerns up at our next route review meeting.

Best Regards,

Shari Stream

Dear Ms. Stream,

We are writing on behalf of the Rock Creek Hills Citizensā€™ Association. (Rock Creek Hills is the neighborhood that surrounds the Silver Creek Middle School.)  Prior to a portion of Beach Drive being closed to replace the bridge crossing Silver Creek in the summer of 2021, school buses approaching SCMS from the southeast were using Beach Drive to Kensington Parkway to Saul Road to reach the school and were leaving the school using the same route.  The bridge closure forced the buses to reroute, and the rerouting involved the buses using Old Spring Road.  Old Spring Road is on a steep hill, parking is permitted on both sides of the road, and there are no sidewalks so residents and students walking to the school walk in the street.

We would like to ask that the school buses change their route back to the route that was used prior to Beach Drive road closure in 2021.

Regards,

Rock Creek Hills Citizensā€™ Association Board of Directors
