You can be a part of a new organization getting established to help your neighbors when they need a hand—and you may need a helping hand too sometimes!

  • Do you know someone at home with an injury who can’t get out to do the usual errands?
  • Are there new parents near you who would greatly appreciate temporary help with their yard work, some meals delivered, a ride to the doctor?
  • Are there seniors near you who would enjoy new social activities or assistance learning how to use a computer?
  • Have you ever wished you could get help from a neighbor but felt uncomfortable asking?

If you’ve answered “yes” to any of these questions you are not alone. Many communities in Silver Spring, Chevy Chase, and Northwest DC have recently started Village volunteer efforts to provide services to fulfill needs such as these.

We plan to develop an Intergenerational Village right here in Rock Creek Hills and other Kensington communities that would like to join us by training volunteers to meet the needs of our diverse friends and neighbors.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for all members of our community by creating a sustainable intergenerational network of neighbors helping neighbors. But it takes quite an effort to get a fully organized Village off the ground so we plan to start small, and then build on our early success. You can help us by letting us know what kinds of services and social and educational activities would be most beneficial for you and your family. Please keep an eye out for our survey and respond as soon as you can.

If you’d like to help plan for this exciting new initiative, learn more about it, or just get on the email list for updates, please contact Suzanne Bowler, Village Coordinator, at [email protected] or 301-946-0990.
